Pakistan Navy locates K2 Airways cargo aircraft black box at 3,200m depth

Report KARACHI : The Pakistan Navy has located the wreckage and black box of a K2 Airways Cargo Boeing 737-400 at a depth of approximately 3,200 metres in the Arabian Sea, following an extensive underwater search operation. The search was launched after the K2 Airways cargo aircraft accident in July, with Pakistan Navy teams conducting continuous underwater operations for the past two months to locate the aircraft and recover key evidence. The operation was carried out under extremely challenging and complex underwater conditions, with naval vessels deploying specialised equipment developed by the National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM) to identify and locate the aircraft wreckage. After extensive efforts, the search teams successfully identified the aircraft's black box at a depth of 3,200 metres beneath the surface of the Arabian Sea. The discovery is expected to provide important information for the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the aircraft accident. Details regarding the successful identification of the black box have been shared with the Bureau of Air Safety Investigation (BASI), which is responsible for investigating aircraft accidents and incidents. The Pakistan Navy said locating an aircraft black box at such a depth represents a first-of-its-kind operation for the service, highlighting the scale and technical complexity of the underwater search. The recovery and examination of the black box could provide investigators with crucial flight data and other information needed to establish the sequence of events leading to the July accident.
