IN LOCAL HISTORY • 60 YEARS AGO — The Minnedosa Chieftans overcame a 3-1 lead at the end of two periods to earn a 4-4 tie with the Neepawa Natives in a SouthWest Hockey League game. George Bayes scored twice for the winners while Barry Brooking and Bob Bayes added singles. • 50 YEARS AGO — Carl Haney and Dan Tremblay gave the Russell Rams all they could handle. Haney scored four goals and assisted on two others and Tremblay fired a hat trick and set up six others as the Foxwarren Falcons dropped the Rams 10-6 in a SouthWest Hockey League game. • 40 YEARS AGO — The hometown Boissevain Border Kings got three goals and four assists from Tim Janz as they dumped the Deloraine Royals 9-3 in SouthWest Hockey League action. Ken Hole also helped the Kings' cause by adding two goals and five assists • 30 YEARS AGO — Kelly McCrimmon was chosen the 38th recipient of the H.L. (Krug) Crawford Memorial Medal. Runners-up were Carmen Hurd, Keith Vassell, Wade Redden and Reid Lumbard. The team of the year was the Brandon WheatKings. • 20 YEARS AGO — Doug Lawrence fired a hat-trick to lead the Portage Terriers to a 5-3 triumph over the Brandon AA Wheat Kings in bantam hockey exhibition action at the Kinsmen Arena. Colin Fay and Tyson Yanchycki also scored for Portage, while Blair Osiowy replied with two goals and T.J. Simpson scored once for Brandon. • 10 YEARS AGO — Dawson Waddell, Jared Janke and McCullough Parker scored in a six- minute, second period stretch to give the Southwest Cougars a 4-1 win over the Interlake Lightning in Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League action in Souris.
