Olympian Ciara Mageean has married her long-term partner Tommy in a ceremony at Belfast City Hall. In pictures posted online by their photographer, Andrew McKenna, the couple can be seen celebrating and popping bottles of champagne in front of Belfast's iconic Harland and Wolff cranes. Ms Mageean, the current reigning European 1,500 metre champion from Co Down, and her now husband also posed under the neon lit umbrellas above the cobblestoned Commercial Court. A number of well-wishers congratulated the pair underneath the social media post. Former track athlete and Olympian David Gillick commented: 'Congratulations to you both.' Irish Olympian and athlete Phil Healy said: 'Simply amazing, massive congrats.' While former Irish hurdler and Olympian Thomas Barr wrote: 'Absolutely love this, huge congratulations you guys.' Ms Mageean was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer last year. After her first 12 rounds of chemotherapy, she was told that surgery and radiotherapy were not options. Speaking previously about planning the wedding, the 34-year-old said: 'While I'm feeling fit and healthy, and looking the way I do, I want to go and enjoy a celebration and marry the man I love. 'We will have a wonderful day, but I'm going to have a busy few months of planning a really quick turnaround for a wedding, we'll be choosing the venues, picking a band. 'A celebration of life is what I want and I hope that that's also what comes through in my book [My Greatest Race] is that hope that we can all have, even in our darkest hour.'
