PHF Proposes SCO Hockey Championship To Promote Regional Sporting Cooperation

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Sep, 2026) President Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani on Tuesday briefed National Coordinators and representatives of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states visiting Islamabad about the federation's ongoing efforts to revive and develop hockey in Pakistan. During the meeting, the PHF President apprised the visiting delegates of the progress made so far, reforms being undertaken by the federation and various initiatives aimed at rebuilding the country's hockey structure and restoring Pakistan's position on the international hockey scene. Mr. Wani also shared the PHF's proposal to host an SCO Hockey Championship in Islamabad in the near future, bringing together hockey teams from SCO member states on a common platform in Pakistan. The SCO National Coordinators and representatives welcomed the proposal and expressed keen interest in participating in the proposed championship. They appreciated the initiative, saying such an event could help promote sports, strengthen people-to-people contacts and enhance sporting cooperation among the SCO member countries. The PHF President thanked the visiting representatives for their positive response and said the proposed championship would provide a new platform for the development of hockey while fostering greater sporting interaction and cooperation among SCO countries. Further consultations with the concerned member states, including discussions on technical and organisational aspects of the proposed championship, will be held in the coming weeks, according to the PHF.
