LAHORE - Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has launched massive crackdown across various districts against restaurants, hotels and other relevant businesses for non-compliance with the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (e-IMS) and irregularities in digital transaction records. During the last 24 hours notices were issued to 250 businesses that were not connected to e-IMS, while 30 business operators were fined for irregularities in digital payments and violations of tax laws, said a PRA spokesperson here Wednesday. He added that more than 50 new businesses were registered with the PRA as part of ongoing efforts to expand the tax net. Enforcement operations were conducted in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Rawalpindi. The spokesperson emphasized that businesses were required to maintain accurate sales records through e-IMS and comply with applicable tax laws. He further stated that action was being ensured against those evading taxes or causing losses to the national exchequer through manipulation of digital records. The public had been urged to use the PRA Sahulat App to verify receipts. Citizens were also encouraged to lodge complaints on social media platforms against businesses issuing unverified receipts or refusing to accept digital payments.
The spokesperson highlighted that the effective use of e-IMS was helping prevent potential tax evasion and expand the tax net. He added that efforts were underway across Punjab to modernize the tax system and broaden the scope of digital monitoring.
