RAWALPINDI - Confirmed dengue cases in Rawalpindi district fell sharply to nine in September 2026 from 352 during the same month last year, a meeting of the District Emergency Response Committee for Dengue Control (DERC) was told on Tuesday.
The meeting, co-chaired by Deputy Commissioner Captain (R) Nadeem Nasir and MNA Tahira Aurangzeb, was also attended by Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information Danyal Chaudhry and Senator Nasir Butt. It reviewed ongoing vector-control operations and field surveillance data.
Health officials attributed the decline in dengue transmission to intensified vector surveillance and timely field interventions. They said field teams detected and destroyed mosquito larvae at 53,755 sites across the district during September.

The meeting was informed that timely field responses, targeted larviciding and continuous monitoring of high-density areas had helped contain the risk of dengue outbreaks.
Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir directed the departments concerned to focus vector-control operations on sensitive union councils and registered hotspots. He also ordered strict digital monitoring of field teams to ensure complete coverage and prevent gaps in surveillance and control activities.
Tahira Aurangzeb stressed the need to run public awareness campaigns alongside administrative measures to educate residents about preventive measures. She urged citizens to prevent the accumulation of stagnant water around their homes and cooperate with health teams visiting residential areas to identify and eliminate dengue breeding sites.
