The presence of alcohol at public gatherings is a growing social concern. Although some view drinking as temporary enjoyment, it can have lasting effects on health, education, family life and public behaviour.
I recently attended a Balochi music event where many young people and adults openly drank beer and other alcoholic beverages, even in front of children. When children repeatedly see adults drinking, they may begin to regard it as normal, setting a troubling example for the next generation.
I also witnessed intoxicated people arguing, using abusive language and fighting. Such behaviour creates an unpleasant atmosphere and may discourage families from attending cultural events. Alcohol can also waste hard-earned money and harm physical and mental health. Drinking at public and cultural events should be discouraged. Families and communities deserve gatherings that are respectful and safe, without the disruption caused by intoxication.
