The Coastal Highway is an important route connecting communities across Balochistan, but the lack of safe and hygienic public washroom facilities along the route remains a serious concern, particularly for women and families travelling long distances. Women travelling along the highway often have very limited access to clean, private and secure washrooms. Where facilities are available, they may lack running water, proper sanitation, privacy or regular maintenance.
Access to sanitation is not simply a matter of convenience. It is closely connected with health, dignity and personal safety. The National Highway Authority, the Government of Balochistan and relevant district administrations should work together to establish properly maintained rest and sanitation facilities at suitable intervals along the Coastal Highway. Fuel stations and existing rest areas could also be encouraged to provide clean public facilities. Regular inspections should ensure that these services remain functional and hygienic.
The Coastal Highway is not merely a road; it is a lifeline for many communities. Travellers deserve basic facilities that ensure comfort, health and dignity.
