Bitcoin has gained about 43.5% in Q3 2026, putting it on track for its second-strongest third-quarter performance on record. Bitcoin has gained about 43.5% in the third quarter of 2026, putting the cryptocurrency on track for its second-largest Q3 increase on record, according to CoinGlass data. Only the 80.41% gain recorded in 2017 stands above the current quarterly performance. The rally has also pushed Bitcoin past the 40.6% increase recorded in Q3 2013. With September still underway, however, the final ranking could change before the quarter closes. According to CoinGlass Bitcoin's latest quarterly advance comes after a weaker first half of the year. The cryptocurrency declined 22.2% in the first quarter and another 14.09% in the second quarter, making the Q3 recovery notably larger than its earlier quarterly moves. Data from CoinGecko placed Bitcoin near $84,800 at the time of the report. Bitcoin Q3 Performance Far Exceeds Historical Average The scale of Bitcoin's current third-quarter gain is notable compared with its longer-term Q3 record. CoinGlass data show an average Q3 return of 8.73% and a median gain of 2.29%. Eight of the 14 third quarters included in the dataset ended higher, but most of those advances were substantially smaller than the 43.5% increase recorded so far in 2026. Source: CoinGlass data Bitcoin gained 25.01% in Q3 2021 and 17.97% in Q3 2020, placing both quarters among its stronger recent third-quarter performances. The current gain has surpassed both by a considerable margin. Other recent Q3 results have been more muted. Bitcoin rose 6.31% in 2025 and less than 1% in 2024. Historical data also show several significant declines, including losses of 39.74% in 2014, 22.86% in 2019 and 11.54% in 2023. Bitcoin's Q3 Ranking Depends on September Finish The historical comparison will not be finalized until September ends. Any additional movement in Bitcoin's price during the remaining sessions could change the cryptocurrency's final third-quarter return and its position among previous Q3 performances. CoinGlass data also show that Bitcoin's fourth-quarter results have historically been stronger than its third-quarter figures, with an average Q4 return of 77.07% and a median of 47.73%. Those historical figures vary widely, however, and do not establish how Bitcoin will perform in a future quarter. Bitcoin recorded particularly large fourth-quarter gains of 479.59% in 2013 and 215.07% in 2017, while Q4 2025 ended with a 23.07% decline. For now, the 43.5% Q3 gain represents a substantial reversal from Bitcoin's first-half losses and ranks second among historical third-quarter performances in the cited CoinGlass data. Its final standing will depend on Bitcoin's performance through the end of September.
