AJK Tourism Seminar Highlights AI, Digitalization For Sustainable Tourism

MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Sep, 2026) A seminar titled 'Reshaping Tourism through Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence' on Tuesday was held at the Kashmir Institute of Management Auditorium to mark World Tourism Day, with speakers stressing greater use of modern technology to promote tourism in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). Director General Tourism AJK Raja Shahid Hussain attended the seminar as chief guest. Hotel and restaurant owners, transporters, tourism professionals, business community members, youth and representatives of various sectors also participated in the event. The speakers discussed tourism development, digitalization, responsible tourism, environmental protection and community participation. The speakers said AJK, with its scenic valleys, lush mountains, natural beauty, historical heritage and rich culture, had vast potential to emerge as a major global tourism destination. They highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence and digital technology and proposed QR-code systems at major tourist destinations, hotels and restaurants to provide visitors with information about accommodation, routes, attractions and essential services through mobile phones. They also called for equipping educated youth with modern tourism-related skills. Emphasizing responsible and sustainable tourism, the speakers stressed protection of forests, water resources, natural landscapes and the environment, besides proposing district-level cleanliness campaigns, information centres, trained tourist guides and improved visitor facilities. They also called for effective policies and legislation to ensure sustainable growth of the sector. The seminar concluded with a call for coordinated efforts by the government, private sector and local communities, while certificates of appreciation were distributed among stakeholders for their contributions to tourism promotion.
