Islamabad Traffic Police has announced the closure of the road between Rawal Dam Chowk and Kashmir Chowk from October 15, 2026, until further notice, urging commuters to use alternative routes to avoid delays.
The closure is expected to affect daily commuters travelling between Islamabad and Rawalpindi, as well as motorists heading towards Park Road, Lehtrar Road, Murree and Bhara Kahu.
The traffic police have issued a diversion plan for different destinations and advised motorists to plan their journeys, particularly during peak commuting hours.
Alternative Routes for Islamabad and Rawalpindi Commuters
According to the traffic advisory, motorists travelling from G-5, the Secretariat and Serena Hotel towards Rawalpindi can use Srinagar Highway and Ninth Avenue. Another option is to take Srinagar Highway, Mehrabad and Peshawar Road.
Commuters heading towards Rawal Dam Chowk, Park Road and Lehtrar Road can use Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, Shakarparian Road, Tulip Hotel and Rawal Dam Road.
People travelling towards Murree and Bhara Kahu have been advised to take Faizabad, Faisal Avenue, Zero Point, Srinagar Highway and Jinnah Square Underpass.
Motorists entering Islamabad from Rawalpindi should use Ninth Avenue, Faqir Aipee Road and Srinagar Highway.
Meanwhile, drivers travelling from Park Road and Lehtrar Road towards Islamabad can take Tulip Hotel Road, Garden Avenue, Shakarparian Road and Seventh Avenue.
Kashmir Chowk Underpass Construction Behind Traffic Diversions
The closure comes as construction work continues on the Kashmir Chowk Underpass along Club Road. The ongoing project has prompted traffic diversions in the area, with authorities urging commuters to follow the designated routes.
Motorists travelling from G-5, the Secretariat and Serena Hotel towards Rawalpindi can also take a U-turn at Lake View and proceed via Murree Road or Club Road.
What Commuters Should Know
Islamabad Traffic Police has warned that the diversions could cause congestion on major roads and advised motorists to leave home 20 to 25 minutes earlier than usual.
Traffic officers will be deployed at different locations to guide drivers and help maintain traffic flow during the closure. Commuters can also receive updates through Islamabad Traffic Police's FM 92.4 radio service and its official social media channels.
Motorists are advised to follow on-ground instructions from traffic personnel and check the latest updates before starting their journeys, particularly if travelling between the twin cities or towards Murree and Bhara Kahu.
