Indrani Sri Mukhyaprana Hanuman Temple is located at Indrali, near Udupi in Karnataka. The temple stands in a quiet green setting and is connected with the sacred Indrani Teertha. It is a peaceful shrine dedicated to Sri Mukhyaprana, the Hanuman form of Vayu. The shrine has an old tradition connected with Indrani Teertha and the worship of Anjaneya. The exact age of the original shrine is not clearly known. The main deity is Sri Mukhyaprana, or Lord Hanuman. In the Madhva tradition, Hanuman is regarded as the first form of Vayu. He is worshipped for strength, courage, devotion and protection. Sri Nagadeva is also worshipped in the temple premises. The nearby Sri Panchadurga Parameshwari Temple is another important shrine in this sacred area. The temple has a traditional stone structure surrounded by greenery. Its simple design and peaceful surroundings give the shrine a calm and traditional atmosphere. The nearby Indrani Teertha adds to the sacred beauty of the place. Indrali is an old sacred place near Udupi and has been associated with the worship of Sri Panchadurga Parameshwari and other deities for generations. The Mukhyaprana shrine has also continued as an important place of worship. The shrine was renewed following traditional religious practices and was reconsecrated in April 2026. Long ago, Indrali was a quiet place surrounded by trees and natural beauty. According to local tradition, ascetic yatis came here to meditate and spend their days in prayer. During their stay, they discovered a natural source of water. The place was peaceful, and the yatis considered the water sacred. This sacred source came to be known as Indrani Teertha. The yatis wished to establish a shrine at this holy place. They chose Lord Anjaneya as the deity and established his shrine near the sacred teertha. Anjaneya came to be worshipped here as Sri Mukhyaprana. For the devotees, this was a meaningful choice. Hanuman was the great devotee of Lord Rama. Though he had immense strength, he always used it in the service of his Lord. Sri Mukhyaprana therefore became a symbol of courage, strength and true devotion. People began visiting the shrine to offer prayers and seek the blessings of Hanuman. Over generations, the sacred teertha and the Mukhyaprana shrine became closely connected with the spiritual life of Indrali. Even today, devotees come to this peaceful kshetra with faith, remembering Hanuman as the perfect example of devotion, humility, and strength. The recent Punaha Pratishta and Brahmakalashotsava were celebrated from April 3 to 7, 2026. The celebrations included Pratishta Homa, Vayustuti Homa, Pavamana Homa, Maha Pooja, and Brahma Kumbha Abhisheka. Special rituals were also performed for Sri Nagadeva, including Ashlesha Bali and Kalashabhisheka.
