Over 50% BIEK pre-engineering students fail to clear all papers

14,683 appeared in 1st year exam, only 6,310 passed all six papers More than 8,300 candidates appearing in first-year pre-engineering examinations in the metropolis failed to clear all six papers, as the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) on Friday announced the 2026 results under a new grading system. According to Controller Examinations Zarina Rashid, 15,044 candidates registered for the Intermediate Part-I Science Pre-Engineering examinations, while 14,683 appeared. Only 6,310 candidates passed all six papers. Another 79 passed five papers, 747 passed four, 1,827 passed three, 1,864 passed two and 1,783 passed only one paper. The figures show that 8,373 candidates did not clear all six papers, although the board's result categories do not separately identify how many candidates failed all six papers. The results were announced on the directives of BIEK Chairman Faqir Muhammad Lakho. This year's Intermediate Part-I examinations were conducted under a new grading system introduced in line with decisions of the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) and the Sindh government's Universities and Boards Department. Under the new system, candidates securing less than 40% marks in any paper are declared "ungraded" and are not considered to have passed that paper. Candidates who are ungraded in a paper may reappear in that paper, provided they meet the other eligibility requirements for taking the examination.
