Argentina media react to Lisandro Martinez performance vs Burkina Faso

Lisandro Martinez is back out on the international stage, playing for Argentina as they aim to set the foundations for future competition success. Burkina Faso were Argentina's opponents last night, with the two sides meeting at Estadio Monumental. Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring for the Argentinans after just four minutes, converting on the rebound after initially missing his penalty. Moumouni Diallo would find the back of his own net to extend that advantage to two before Gianluca Prestianni, Nico Paz, and Julian Alvarez each scored to send Argentina into half-time 5-0 up. Lisandro Martinez came off at this point, with Tomas Palacios replacing him, but Argentina did a further two goals in the second half to see out a 7-0 victory. Media outlets from across Argentina have now been reacting to the performance, giving their insight and opinion for supporters to read. Eldestape gave Martinez a 7/10, saying: 'Like Cuti, he was solid in defense and had almost no work done at the back. He only played one half.' La Pagina Millionaira gave similar thoughts, with the central defender receiving a 6/10. The outlet noted that 'similar to Cuti, although less tested defensively than the captain.' The publication also said that his on-the-ball work was accurate. TyC Sports noted that Martinez did not really have much to do, with no major problems. The victory is Argentina's second in a row following their win against Bolivia on Wednesday evening, which United's central defender started in. Argentina's next fixture takes place on Tuesday, when they will take on Benin. That match is significant for two reasons. The first of those is that it marks the formal end of Lionel Messi's international career. It also is the final match of this international break before Lisandro Martinez returns to Manchester United. United are set to take on Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening, with Martinez likely to be involved if he can come through Tuesday's game unscathed. Any injury would force Michael Carrick to look towards alternative options, including Ayden Heaven. The manager may hope that is not the case.
