Harassment is increasing in our society today, both online and in physical spaces. I have seen cases where victims, unable to cope with continuous harassment, choose to stay silent instead of sharing their pain with a parent or someone they trust. Sadly, this silence has, in some instances, pushed individuals toward taking their own lives. If someone is experiencing such an ordeal, they should share it with those they trust for their own safety.
Often, the person committing the harassment is not a stranger but someone known to the victim, which makes speaking up even harder due to fear or shame. We urgently need a culture where teenagers and young adults feel safe telling their parents exactly what they are going through. Speaking up early is a sign of strength, not weakness.
