LAHORE - The Lahore Arts Council (LAC) Alhamra is set to host the Third Punjab Maas International Theatre Festival 2026 from October 23 to 28, bringing together theatre artists from Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Norway and France to showcase diverse theatrical traditions and promote cultural exchange. The six-day festival, scheduled to open at Alhamra, Mall Road, will feature international and local theatrical performances, creative workshops and panel discussions focusing on artistic freedom, digital culture, social transformation and the role of theatre in engaging younger generations. An exciting lineup of international performing arts is coming to Alhamra. The cultural showcase kicks off on October 24 with the University of the Punjab's presentation of Ak Boota Ambi Da, followed by a captivating performance of Gangster Hunting with Daisy Detective by Norway's renowned ERLER Teater Kompani. The excitement continues on October 25 as a visiting French theatre group takes the stage with Zig Zag. Complementing the live performances, a timely panel discussion will also take place to explore the evolving relevance of theatre in today's dominant social media age. Kazakhstan's Ilyas Omarov Kostanay Regional Kazakh Drama Theatre will present Sholpan's Sin on October 26, while a panel discussion will highlight the importance of inclusive and accessible theatre. The Pakistani production Rooh Ka Sauda, in collaboration with the Maas Foundation and the Embassy of Germany, will be staged on October 27. The festival will conclude on October 28 with a performance of Kintir by Indonesia's Sanggar Obrog Selagiling Seni, followed by a panel discussion on boosting youth participation in the performing arts. Additionally, the spokesperson announced a specialized workshop series titled Designing Encounters: Creating Immersive Experiences. These sessions will take place at Beaconhouse National University on October 25 and Lahore Grammar School (Johar Town Campus) on October 26.
