Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD is in discussions with its Pakistani partner, Mega Motor Company (MMC), to introduce its next-generation ultra-fast charging technology in the country, aiming to make electric vehicles more convenient and accelerate the adoption of new energy vehicles. Liu Xueliang, Vice President of BYD Co. Ltd. and General Manager of its Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, told the media that the company was exploring ways to bring the technology to Pakistani customers in collaboration with MMC. BYD's Mega Flash Charging technology is powered by its second-generation Blade Battery. According to Liu, the system significantly reduces charging times, making electric vehicles more practical for everyday use. The technology is designed for next-generation vehicles equipped with the new battery platform, while existing BYD models will also be compatible with the charging infrastructure, although their charging speeds may differ. Liu said the technology's introduction in Pakistan would depend on infrastructure readiness, consultations with relevant stakeholders and future product plans. Meanwhile, BYD's manufacturing plant in Pakistan is nearing its planned launch in the second half of 2026. Liu said the facility would be the company's sixth manufacturing plant outside China, with an initial annual production capacity of 25,000 vehicles, expandable to 50,000 units. The project is expected to create more than 1,100 jobs, support sustainable industrialisation and help prevent an estimated 165,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions by 2034. Liu added that further details about the manufacturing facility would be announced in due course. – ERMD READ MORE
