Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday paid tribute to farmers and growers for their contribution to ensuring food security, stressing the need for modern agricultural practices to meet growing food requirements. In her message on World Food Day, she said the occasion reaffirmed the commitment to collective efforts for food security. She noted that climate change and extreme weather conditions posed serious challenges to ensuring an adequate food supply worldwide. Ensuring access to balanced and nutritious food for everyone was a hallmark of sustainable development, she said, adding that innovation and mechanisation in agriculture were essential to meeting growing food demands. The chief minister said the Punjab government was supporting farmers to improve grain production through initiatives including the Kisan Card, the Green Tractor Scheme and agricultural mechanisation. She said the Model Agri Mall was providing farmers with a range of facilities under one roof, adding that 10 more such facilities would be established in different cities across Punjab. The chief minister said the hard work of farmers, who continued to cope with adverse weather conditions, must not be overlooked. She acknowledged their valuable contribution to meeting the food needs of people across the country.
