In our society, the joint family system is given great importance. It is a space where multiple generations live together, sharing both their happiness and responsibilities. However, a lack of personal freedom and privacy, frequent family conflicts and unrealistic expectations can often cause severe mental stress. In these situations, mothers and housewives are typically the most affected. They bear the primary responsibility for household chores, raising children and catering to the needs of the entire extended family. To fulfil the needs of others, housewives frequently ignore their own well-being, rest and mental peace. When their tireless efforts go unappreciated and they do not receive adequate support, they often experience anxiety, frustration and emotional exhaustion. These negative effects are not limited to mothers; they deeply impact the mental and emotional health of their children as well. Constant stress and conflict at home can breed fear, insecurity, anxiety and behavioural problems in young minds. Therefore, it is crucial for all family members to share household responsibilities, ensure mothers get enough rest and respect their personal feelings and needs. Providing children with a peaceful home environment filled with love, care and security is essential for their healthy development. Treating mental health with the same urgency as physical health is the need of the hour. A truly healthy family is one in which the emotional needs of every single member are respected. Ultimately, protecting a mother's mental health is vital for the bright future of our children and the building of a healthy society. Areeba Javed Karachi
