Geely Challenges BYD With New EV Battery That Charges in Under 5 Minutes

Geely has unveiled a new ultra-fast electric vehicle charging system capable of taking an EV battery from 10% to 70% in just 4.5 minutes. The system uses 2.2-megawatt charging infrastructure, highlighting the rapid progress being made in high-power EV charging technology. Alongside the new charging system, Geely has introduced AI-powered technology designed to monitor battery health, manage temperature and identify potential safety risks during ultra-fast charging. The technology is aimed at improving charging management while supporting safer and more efficient battery operation. The development adds another major step to the growing competition in EV charging technology. BYD has also introduced its latest high-speed charging system, which can reportedly take an EV from 10% to 97% in around nine minutes, underscoring the industry's push toward significantly shorter charging times.
