Aleppo's historic Great Umayyad Mosque in Syria officially reopened on Thursday following years of restoration, nearly 13 years after intense fighting during the country's civil war forced it to close.
The mosque's minaret, which collapsed in 2013, has been reconstructed using some of the original stones recovered from the rubble. For centuries, the complex has been an important center for worship and religious learning.
Following its reopening, the mosque will once again welcome worshippers for daily prayers, Quran study circles and religious lessons.
