Istanbul ranks as the world’s most photogenic wedding destination, topping a new Instagram-based study with 142.1 million hashtags linked to weddings in the city, according to research by wedding travel experts Destify Destination Weddings.

Istanbul’s position at the top reflects its combination of historic architecture, waterfront venues and panoramic city views. The city’s palaces, Bosphorus shoreline locations and skyline landmarks have become frequent backdrops for wedding photography shared online.
Bali’s strong second-place showing was driven by its tropical landscapes, beachfront resorts and cliffside venues overlooking the ocean. Ibiza’s ranking highlighted the appeal of coastal scenery paired with luxury villas and rustic countryside settings.
A spokesperson from Destify Destination Weddings said, “Destination weddings are no longer a niche choice, they’ve become a global celebration trend driven by experience, storytelling, and social media visibility.”
The spokesperson added, “Recent industry data shows that around 20-25% of all weddings in the U.S. are destination weddings, with couples often spending upwards of $30,000-$40,000 to create unforgettable experiences in scenic locations.”
“About 60% of these weddings are held in tropical or coastal settings, and nearly 45% choose beach destinations, highlighting the appeal of natural beauty and stunning backdrops for couples and their guests.”
The spokesperson also said, “As the global destination wedding market continues to expand, with valuations well into the tens of billions of dollars and strong year-on-year growth, couples are increasingly seeking locations that offer not just scenic views, but rich cultural experiences and memorable moments.”
Researchers said the destinations topping Instagram rankings reflect a shift toward visually distinctive settings that offer both striking photography and immersive travel experiences for wedding guests.
The study suggests that social media exposure continues to play a major role in influencing where couples choose to marry abroad, reinforcing the importance of destination branding for tourism markets seeking to attract high-spending wedding travelers.
