The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Division of Food Security has announced a significant increase in the price of eggs sold at Government Farms, citing rising production costs and the need to align with current market conditions.
In a media release dated February 19, 2026, the Division advised that effective March 2, 2026, the price of eggs will move from $7.00 per dozen to $15.00 per dozen.
“The Division of Food Security advises the public that effective March 2, 2026, the price of eggs sold at Government Farms will be adjusted from $7.00 per dozen to $15.00 per dozen,” the release stated.
It noted that the decision follows years without any price adjustment. “This decision was not taken lightly,” the Division said, adding that the price of eggs and other agricultural produce sold by the Division “has remained unchanged since 2005.”
According to the release, the increase reflects “the significant increase in production costs over the years, including feed and other essential farm inputs,” as well as “the need to align prices more responsibly with current market conditions.”
Despite the increase, the Division reaffirmed its broader mandate, stating that it “remains committed to supporting local food production while ensuring fair access and long-term sustainability within the sector.”
