Pakistan's road infrastructure development is moving forward as plans have been announced to expand the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway by adding two more lanes to accommodate increasing traffic and improve the overall travel experience for commuters. The decision was directed by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan during a review meeting held with officials of the National Highway Authority (NHA). According to officials, the expansion project is aimed at reducing congestion on one of Punjab's busiest motorway routes, which serves as an important link between Lahore, Sialkot, and surrounding industrial and commercial areas. The additional lanes are expected to improve traffic flow, shorten travel times, and make transportation safer and more efficient for both passenger and commercial vehicles. The motorway widening initiative is also part of a broader strategy to modernize Pakistan's highway infrastructure. Authorities are simultaneously reviewing upgrades for other major routes, including the M-2 Motorway and the M-4 Motorway section, to meet rising transportation demands and strengthen regional connectivity. During the meeting, officials were instructed to accelerate work on ongoing motorway and highway projects while ensuring that construction quality and safety standards remain a top priority. The government believes that improving the country's road network will not only provide smoother intercity travel but also support economic activity, trade, tourism, and logistics operations across Punjab and other regions of Pakistan.
