A motorist is in critical condition following a multi-car crash that left wrecked vehicles strewn across all lanes of the 10 Freeway in the Inland Empire on Monday morning.
As many as six vehicles were involved in the crash shortly before 2 a.m. on the westbound 10 Freeway near Etiwanda Avenue in Ontario, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The violent incident appears to have started with a collision between a van and a car, but ultimately led to a chain-reaction crash that left a pickup truck on its side and forced officials to completely shut down the westbound side of the freeway.

First responders used the Jaws of Life to rescue at least one motorist from a vehicle.
It was unclear whether rain, which had been falling in the area throughout the day Sunday but tapered off during the evening hours, played a role in the crash.
One person was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
Officials later announced that the freeway had been cleared and all lanes had reopened.
