PIA, Kam Air link Afghanistan to Gulf via Islamabad

First phase launches Kabul-Islamabad-Dammam route; passengers get unified booking, direct baggage transfer and airside transit Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Afghanistan's Kam Air have signed an interline agreement aimed at providing smoother travel between Afghanistan and Middle Eastern destinations through Islamabad. The first phase of the cooperation will activate the Kabul-Islamabad-Dammam route, according to a PIA spokesman. Under the agreement, passengers will be able to book their entire journey under a single reservation instead of purchasing separate tickets for each leg. Checked baggage from Kabul will also be transferred directly at Islamabad International Airport to the connecting PIA flight, removing the need for passengers to collect and recheck their luggage during transit. Afghan passengers travelling onwards to Gulf destinations will not be required to clear immigration in Pakistan as long as they remain airside during transit, the spokesman said. The arrangement establishes Islamabad as the transit point between Kam Air's Afghanistan operations and PIA flights serving destinations in the Middle East.
