Arresting Aleema Khan First Step Toward Worsening Situation, Says Barrister Gohar

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Sep, 2026) A strong reaction has emerged from Barrister Gohar Khan, chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), over the possible detention and arrest of Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founding chairman Imran Khan, in Lahore under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law. He described Aleema Khan's arrest as the government's first step toward creating tension and strongly demanded her immediate and unconditional release. In a statement issued on the social media platform X, Barrister Gohar Khan said that Imran Khan's sister, Noreen Niazi, informed him by phone about Aleema Khan's detention. He said PTI's proposed protest and long march on 27th September would be completely peaceful, constitutional and political. PTI believes in peaceful struggle for its constitutional and democratic demands and does not want any form of violence or confrontation.The PTI chairman strongly criticized the government, saying that arresting Aleema Khan outside her home or detaining her under the MPO in such a peaceful environment amounts to fueling tension and violence in the country. He said the government would be fully responsible for worsening the situation, as Aleema Khan's detention was the first step toward creating unrest. Barrister Gohar also demanded that the government immediately end such retaliatory measures and release Aleema Khan without delay. He said PTI would soon announce its comprehensive and final political strategy against the government's action.
