At halftime, CJ Carr and Notre Dame were officially on upset watch from unranked Wisconsin, hanging on to a 14-13 lead. Not only would that have been devastating for Notre Dame, but Carr would have seen his NFL draft stock impacted. Wisconsin played well, but after a solid showing from Carr and Notre Dame really stepping up, they wouldn't allow another point after half and ended with a 41-13 win. As someone who wasn't the biggest fan of Carr heading into this year, he didn't rank inside my top-35 big board. From what I saw in Week 1, there wasn't a clear reason for Carr to jump any of the other quarterbacks. It's not as if Carr is a bad quarterback, but he fits in the bucket of a high-floor player, which I'm not going to value as much with so much time for these players with upside to develop. Carr would end the night with a stat line that's fairly indicative of how he plays the quarterback position. 239 passing yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions on 19/29 passing attempts. That said, Carr also did have one fumble. It's just that neither of those touchdowns was Carr pushing the ball downfield, and I think that's partially because his arm strength isn't that great, although it's adequate. In the second half: Notre Dame 28, Wisconsin 3. CJ Carr got better as the game went on and Nolan James Jr. delivered the exclamation point at Lambeau. There hasn't been much downtime for more data to come in, but from September 5th to September 7th, his ranking has remained the same. It felt like CJ Carr had a respectable showing in Week 1, but it would have been nice to see him take over the game a bit more to prove why the NFL draft consensus ranking is right.
