Meet 100 artists at the Commonwheel Art Festival in Manitou Springs

(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — The 52nd Annual Commonwheel Artists Labor Day Art Festival took place over the weekend in Manitou Springs and continues on Monday, Sept. 7. The free event showcases the work of approximately 100 artists and runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Labor Day. Festival attendees can meet with artists at their booths while enjoying live music and family-oriented programming. The event, located at 502 Manitou Avenue, also offers participating artists an opportunity to connect directly with community members and receive feedback on their work. Local wildlife and nature photographer Jenny Powell is among the artists exhibiting at the festival. Powell elaborated on her recent work and the inspiration behind her latest collection. 'I've been primarily full-color wildlife photography and nature the last few years,' Powell said. 'This past year, I've moved toward my shadow series, which is super dark, moody, almost black-and-white photos; strip out almost all of the color, to give us some quiet drama, quiet intensity of the wildlife.'
