6 cops suspended over viral video of b'day celebration at Maharajganj police outpost

Lucknow: Six police personnel, including the in charge of Adda Bazar police outpost in Maharajganj district, have been suspended after a video purportedly showing a birthday celebration by an outsider on the outpost premises went viral on social media. The action was taken by SP Shakti Mohan Awasthi after the video came to the notice of senior police officers. The SP has also assigned a detailed inquiry into the matter to the circle officer (CO), Nichlaul. According to the information available, the incident relates to the Adda Bazar police outpost under Nautanwa police station. A video circulating on social media purportedly shows a young man cutting a birthday cake at the police outpost. The cake can be seen placed on the bonnet of a car, while several people, including police personnel, are present around him. Some of the policemen seen in the video are reportedly in uniform, while others appear to be in civilian clothes. After cutting the cake, the youth is seen distributing the cake among those present, while people around him clap and congratulate him. The video is said to have been recorded a few days ago. However, it could not be independently verified. The presence of an outsider inside the police outpost for a birthday celebration triggered concern after the video was widely circulated. Following a preliminary inquiry, the SP ordered the suspension of six personnel posted at the outpost. Those suspended have been identified as Adda Bazar Outpost in charge Akhilesh Yadav , Sub-Inspector Vikas Kumar Gaur, and constables Prabhar Gaur, Abhimanyu Kharwar, Ramkrit Yadav and Prashant Kumar. Police officials said the preliminary inquiry indicated indiscipline and negligence towards official responsibilities on the part of the personnel.
