Mumbai: 15-Foot Lord Ganesha Idol Falls From Trolley During Arrival Procession in Kurla, One Injured

A 15-foot-tall idol of Lord Ganesha fell from a trolley near Sheetal Talao on LBS Road in Kurla West while an arrival procession was underway, resulting in minor injuries to one person. The incident took place when members of the Om Shakti Foundation, based in Prem Nagar, Dharavi, were transporting the Ganesh idol from Bail Bazaar (V.B. Nagar) towards Dharavi on a trolley. According to information, the procession had reached the Sheetal Talao area when the trolley was being taken over a speed breaker. The trolley reportedly lost balance, causing the massive idol to fall to the ground. The idol was extensively damaged in the incident. A foundation volunteer who was standing near the trolley sustained minor injuries as the idol fell. He was immediately taken to the nearby Bhabha Hospital, where he received preliminary treatment. His condition was reported to be stable. Following the incident, the damaged idol was respectfully immersed in Sheetal Talao by the organisers and local residents in accordance with religious customs. The incident has caused concern among members of the Ganesh festival organisation and residents of the area. The accident has also sparked discussions about a similar incident reported in Bhuleshwar a few days ago, where a Ganesh idol was involved in an accident during an arrival procession. With two such incidents occurring during Ganesh idol arrival processions, concerns have been raised over the need for public Ganesh mandals to exercise greater caution while transporting idols, particularly at locations with potholes, speed breakers and other road hazards. Organisers have also been urged to strictly follow safety measures during idol transportation.
