New outdoor turf fields ready for fall season at Cloverdale Athletic Park

(Image via Google Maps) Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... Phase one is done. Two new turf fields were completed on the east side of Cloverdale Athletic Park (CAP) last week. The fields represent Phase 1 of a more than $12 million improvement project for the park. Still to come are an access road, a new parking lot, the completion of a new covered training facility, and a new traffic light. 'Whether it's a child attending practice, a local team competing in a weekend tournament, or families cheering from the sidelines, these new turf fields will help more people enjoy sports year-round,' Mayor Brenda Locke said in a press release. 'This investment helps meet the growing demand for quality recreational facilities while strengthening Surrey's ability to host sporting events that benefit our local economy and community.' The fields started going in in the fall of 2025. The new multi-use pitches replace a pair of soccer-dedicated grass fields. The release noted the fields were often closed following heavy rains. The turf fields will remain open year round. According to the release, the 50-acre park on the west side of Cloverdale is 'a hub for sports in Surrey.' The multi-use park has ball diamonds, a basketball court, a sports box, playgrounds, a bike park, a water playground, tennis courts, washrooms and change rooms, a fieldhouse, and multiple grass and synthetic fields for many different sports and activities. The new parking lot will be nestled beside the new turf fields and in front of Surrey United Soccer Club's new covered training facility. The 110-space parking lot is expected to be completed by November. There will also be an intersection with a new traffic light going in on 64th Avenue at 170th Street. The new parking lot and traffic light will provide access to Surrey United's indoor facility. The building is expected to be completed by mid- to late-September.
