PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Sep, 2026) The rate of births through Caesarean section (C-section) under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health programme has reached 47.43 percent, raising questions about the medical necessity of the procedures and oversight of hospitals. According to a report, 83.4 percent of the C-sections performed under the programme were carried out at private hospitals. The report also pointed to cases where financial considerations, rather than medical necessity, were cited as one of the reasons for preferring C-section deliveries. Available data show that hospitals receive higher payments for C-section deliveries than for normal deliveries under the health programme. The package for a C-section has been fixed at Rs 26,575, while the package for a normal delivery stands at Rs 15,129. The figures have highlighted the need for closer monitoring of C-section practices and hospital billing under the programme.
