Drivers heading down Interstate 26 will have to turn around and make a 16-mile round-trip detour to make an exit next weekend due to a ramp closure. The eastbound ramp at Exit 129 will close at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, and remain closed through 6 a.m. the following Monday, the S.C. Department of Transportation announced. Drivers on the interstate who need to head south on Highway 21 south of Sandy Run will instead have to drive another eight miles to the exit onto Caw Caw Highway in Calhoun County at Exit 136, get back onto I-26 going the other way and drive eight miles to get back Exit 129 from the westbound ramp, according to a DOT detour map. Crews will be on scene doing road work on the eastbound exit ramp over the weekend, DOT said in a media release. 'SCDOT asks that drivers slow down and pay attention to crews when driving through the work zone,' the department said.
