Final Fantasy VII Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi has revealed during a panel at PAX West that the development team for the remake trilogy looked to CG film Final Fantasy VII Advent Children as its 'graphical goal' for the project, as fans consider it the 'ideal vision' of the classic 1997 RPG.
'For many fans, we can say that Advent Children is remembered as an ideal vision of Final Fantasy 7,' said Hamaguchi-san. 'So, we wanted to bring the appeal of that visual piece to life as a game that gamers themselves could experience.'
During the same panel, it was revealed that Square Enix is looking to transform Final Fantasy VII into 'an IP with an ever-evolving future,' which considering the game already has numerous spinoffs under its belt, probably isn't all that surprising. We already know that FFVII Revelation is getting two major story DLCs to flesh out the characters of Sephiroth and Vincent, for example.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027 for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. The game allows players to explore the open-world using the Highwind airship, with Cloud and companions able to parachute down into any major location across the map.
While Square Enix has confirmed that FFVII Revelation will receive a physical release on PS5 – arriving on a single Blu-ray disc – you'll still have to download data in order to play it.
