Marvel Quietly Assembled a Super-Team of MCU Writers for Doomsday & Secret Wars

Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars may have pushed Marvel to assemble the best MCU writers together. The awaited superhero epics will feature a massive ensemble cast, led by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and more. Michael Waldron, one of the writers on Doomsday and Secret Wars, revealed how the two movies brought together previous MCU writers Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, and Stephen McFeely to provide key contributions. Speaking with TheWrap, he said, 'I mean, just those writers are responsible for some of the biggest movies ever made, so I just feel lucky to be working with all of them.' Michael Waldron went on to explain how Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, and McFeely eventually joined Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars during the writing phase. 'I was on these movies for a long time. I went off and made Chad Powers when Steve and the Russos came on, and then I came back into Avengers and was helping out Steve and Joe and Anthony, and then went and made Season 2 of Chad Powers,' he revealed. Chris and Erik later joined the two movies as Waldron came back after completing Chad Powers. Since then, he's been 'helping some more, working with Chris and Erik and Steve and everybody.' Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters later this year on December 18, 2026. The movie will see the return of Robert Downey Jr., but not as Tony Stark/Iron Man. He will play the main supervillain, Victor von Doom. The massive cast also includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova/Black Widow, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki, among others. As for Avengers: Secret Wars, it will be released next year on December 17, 2027. Marvel has yet to officially announce details on its full cast.
