Police were called to Bay Street at around 9:35am, with the Scottish Ambulance Service also dispatching crews to the scene. A section of the road, near a snack van, was cordoned off, with a marked police vehicle blocking entry to Bay Street at its junction with the A8 Greenock Road. A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Telegraph: 'Around 9.35am on Tuesday, 8 September, 2026, we received a report of two men assaulted in Bay Street, Port Glasgow. 'One man has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and the other man has been taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital. 'A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident. 'Enquiries are ongoing." The cordon remained in place throughout Tuesday, with officers manning the scene.
