Kochi : The Indian Coast Guard has successfully evacuated an injured mariner from a merchant vessel approximately 87 nautical miles off Kochi. The maritime rescue sub-centre, Kochi, coordinated the medical evacuation operation following a request for assistance from the Danish-flagged merchant vessel Cornelia Maersk. The vessel was carrying a Filipino mariner who had sustained second-degree burns and required urgent medical attention. An ALH MK-III helicopter of 845 Squadron, Coast Guard Air Enclave, Kochi, supported by ICGS Arnvesh, was tasked with the mission. The helicopter crew undertook the evacuation at sea and successfully winched the casualty from the merchant vessel.
