James Buchanan 'Bucky' Barnes was the loyal childhood best friend of Steve Rogers. He was a sergeant in the United States Army and was part of the 107th Infantry. In the latter part of the film, during a mission in the Austrian Alps to capture Dr. Arnim Zola, Bucky was caught in an explosion, which made Rogers believe that his friend had died.
