WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — The Williamson County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday that it made an arrest late Monday night after a homicide occurred earlier that day.
KXAN previously reported that WCSO responded to a county park before 11 a.m. Monday after a body was reported to 911. The scene was near the Chandler Creek Trail.
Benedict Chindeu Ogbodiegwu faces a first-degree felony charge of murder, according to Williamson County court records.
He applied for a court-appointed attorney on Tuesday, per the case record. KXAN will contact his attorney for comment when one is assigned.
Prior to the arrest, WCSO released a photo of a suspect whom it identified on Tuesday as Ogbodiegwu.
'Based on preliminary evidence and information developed so far, investigators believe the attack was a random act and that the victim and suspect were not known to one another,' WCSO's post says.
The victim's identity has not yet been released by authorities.
The Texas Rangers are assisting WCSO in its investigation. The Round Rock Police Department and the Round Rock Fire Department also assisted WCSO during the Monday response.
