Students at one Windsor public high school got an unexpected extension to their summer break on Tuesday.
The first day of fall classes at Vincent Massey Secondary School was cancelled due to a water main break outside the building.
"Essential services in the building were not functioning, requiring the school to unfortunately close for the day," read a Facebook post from the Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB). "We began the morning hopeful that the issue could be resolved in time for regular classes to continue. However, we have since confirmed with ENWIN that repairs will not be completed in time for the school to reopen today."
The board reported that as of noon on Tuesday, it was confident that the problem would be corrected in time for classes to resume on Wednesday.
"While this is certainly not the first day of school we had hoped for our students and families at Massey, we look forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow and starting the school year together," read the post.
Parents and students will be notified if the information changes.
