Fundraiser launched to help Lancashire man return to UK after breaking neck in Turkey

Will Francey suffered the life-changing injury on the final night of a trip last Thursday after diving into a swimming pool. His partner, Becky Francey, pulled him from the water before he was taken to hospital for emergency treatment. Will later underwent a high-risk 13-hour operation. Doctors have since told the family that he is expected to be paralysed from the neck down. A fundraising campaign has now been launched to help bring him back to the UK, with the family aiming to raise at least £150,000 to cover mounting medical costs, specialist transport and future care needs. According to the appeal, Will remains in intensive care in Turkey, where treatment is costing around £2,000 a day. The family say a medically supervised flight back to England is expected to cost about £120,000 because specialist medical staff will be required on board. Becky described the accident as a "split second of tragedy" that has completely changed the future of a young man known for his enthusiasm and love of life. She said: "Will has a long road to recovery, and the end goal of 'recovered' is still uncertain of what that looks like. "But he has family, and love and support." Will's parents are currently in Turkey by his bedside, while Becky has been working tirelessly to coordinate with hospitals, insurers and healthcare providers in a bid to get him home safely. The family say they do not have the level of insurance required to cover all of the expenses they are now facing. As well as the immediate costs of intensive care and medical transport, the appeal states there are likely to be further expenses to make Will's home accessible and provide the specialist equipment and support he may need in the future. The fundraiser was launched with the approval of the Francey and Ponter families who hope to raise at least £150,000. Those behind the appeal are asking anyone who can help to donate, while also encouraging people to share messages of support and well wishes for Will and his family. At the time of writing, donations had begun to pour in from friends, relatives and members of the wider community as efforts continue to bring Will back to the UK for further treatment and rehabilitation.
