Artificial Trailer Sees Andrew Garfield as Sam Altman in Guadagnino's OpenAI Drama

Andrew Garfield stars as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in Luca Guadagnino's Artificial, a drama exploring Altman's 2023 firing and rehiring. Originally developed by Amazon MGM Studios, the film was acquired by Neon after the studio dropped the project. The cast includes Monica Barbaro as Mira Murati and Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk. The beloved Spider-Man actor, who had multiple projects throughout the year, has another highly anticipated feature coming out. Following Neon's acquisition of the film, the first trailer for Artificial has officially been released, as it is set to play in select theaters on Christmas Day. Directed by Luca Guadagnino, the Artificial movie was initially developed at Amazon MGM Studios, as the biographical feature would explore Sam Altman, the OpenAI CEO, and how he was fired and rehired in 2023. However, despite being its distributor, with a release date aimed for 2027, the corporate titan ended up dropping the project only days after they had signed a deal with OpenAI for $50 billion, which sparked controversy. While things were looking grim for the feature, Neon ended up acquiring Guadagnino's drama, with the Garfield-starring movie getting a chance to be released after principal photography wrapped in October 2025. The cast also stars Monica Barbaro as OpenAI Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati, and Yura Borisov as the co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Ilya Sutskever. Ike Barinholtz is set to play Elon Musk, while Cooper Hoffman portrays Greg Brockman, OpenAI's board chairman.
