Spanish Town Man Shot Dead by Police During Search Operation

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man was shot and killed by the police during a search operation in Shelter Rock, Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Sunday morning. The deceased has been identified by his alias, 'Tuffman,' and is said to be from Jones Pen in Spanish Town. According to the police, a team armed with a search warrant went to a premises in the area shortly before 6:50 a.m. Police said the man was a person of interest in several crimes committed within the St Catherine North division. The police reported that as the team approached the dwelling, the door opened and then suddenly closed. The officers continued towards the house and entered, where a search was conducted. According to the police, during the operation, the occupant allegedly pointed a firearm at the officers. The police said they took evasive action and shot him. He reportedly fell while clutching a firearm, which was subsequently recovered and identified as a .38 revolver containing five rounds of ammunition. The injured man was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the fatal police shooting.
