In Samlesbury, United Utilities is beginning phase two of its ongoing project to upgrade more than 7km of ageing water mains. As part of its £380 million investment programme, covering 925km across the North West over the next five years. Stephen Walker, head of water services for United Utilities in Lancashire, said: "We are now one year into our five-year programme to upgrade more than 160km of water mains across Lancashire and we are making good progress. "The new pipes we are installing are much more durable and will play an important role in ensuring we can continue to deliver safe and reliable water supplies to customers." Work is planned to start at the end of July to align with the school summer holidays. Work will take place along Nabs Head Lane from Further Lane to Preston New Road, with property access maintained and a signed diversion in place. This latest phase will upgrade almost 1.3km of water mains. It follows the completion of more than 3.5km in the first phase earlier this year. A third and final phase will upgrade a further 2.3km of pipeline on Preston New Road. READ MORE: United Utilities is notifying nearby customers in advance of the project. Residents are reminded that all employees and contract partners carry ID cards and can verify their identity on request. Anyone with concerns can contact United Utilities on 0345 672 3723.
