Aodyo Instruments Loom is a new portable, multidimensional MPE controller designed for touch, slide, strum, and trigger signals, now on Kickstarter. Since Aodyo was acquired by the French company INODESIGN, the team has been working intensively to bring the Loom MPE MIDI controller to life. Further progress was made this summer. Among other things, they completed the final hardware revision (2.1). You can see it in the attached photo. Summer 2026 Update The silkscreen layout received an overall design refresh, with major changes from the June 2024 version, the last one made by the original developers. The changes include label changes (action zone to action pad, bar to tap bar); the slider LED was moved slightly; the tap bar LED was moved above the tap bar; and the visual identity was refined. The new Aodyo Loom revision 2.1 also comes with more connectivity. Besides the main USB-C connector for power and USB MIDI and the TRS MIDI out, they added a TRS MIDI input. This should make the Loom easier to use with other devices. They included this extra TRS MIDI input to enable future firmware-based features, like receiving MIDI clock for any future rhythmic generation modes. Other changes in the new Loom hardware revision include more adjustments to the touch slider and the new mainboard. Aodyo says that the next steps will be: final mechanical parts adjustments and tests final firmware for V2.1 hardware and sensor tweaks to get a good user experience mode templates and use case examples final preparation step before the launch in production It's welcome to see that the team regularly communicates their progress and that Loom production is on the horizon. Update from June 1, 2026 The French company INODESIGN acquired the bankrupt company Aodyo last November. CEO Mickael Coronado announced shortly after the acquisition that both products, the Loom and the Anyma Omega, would be completed, even though it would take considerable time. The existing products – the Anyma Phi, the Sylphyo, and the Anyma Phi plugin – are available again as usual. The first product they are working on is the Loom MPE MIDI touch controller. In May, the developers shared new information with Kickstarter backers. Development Update May/June One of the new team's first tasks was to analyze the previous team's designs and determine the next steps. They decided on a redesign of the circuit. According to them, the original team didn't have the time and budget to optimize it enough to bring it to the final production. The plan is now to release a 2-octave version first, and later a 3-octave version based on the same motherboard. Design Changes + 1st prototype In their analysis, they found the original design too complex and made it more efficient by using a single mainboard. Moreover, the ribbon board providing two octaves will be ready for integration into the Omega desktop synth later. A first prototype of the Loom v2 (shown in the attached picture) is ready. They will do another prototype to fix some of the remaining issues. Good: some of the original Aodyo SAS employees are back on board and helped them bring the Loom together. New Info For Kickstarter/Indiegogo Backers INODESIGN says that all this means an extra 50% cost across the entire R&D budget (which represented 2/3 of the 177,8k€ collected on Kickstarter and Indiegogo for the Loom). Aodyo now also has news for all backers of the Loom MIDI MPE controller. They have two options: option 1 : pay an extra 100€ to get their Loom from the very first batch as soon as the first production batch is ready to ship : pay an extra 100€ to get their Loom from the very first batch as soon as the first production batch is ready to ship option 2: wait until they get enough ROI from Loom sales to new customers to get their Loom 2 octaves at no extra cost later (from their current estimate, they would need to sell 4 Loom to new customers to get 1 free for initial backers). They are currently targeting an Autumn 2026 for the completion of the R&D and the start of production. A first batch of 500 units is planned, which means the first Looms could be ready to ship shortly after that milestone. It's good to see that this is continuing and that we will probably see one of the products this year. Update from February 10, 2026 Last November, it was announced that Aodyo Instruments had been revived by the French company INODESIGN. In multiple Kickstarter posts, the company explained its steps, including that the Loom project will be completed in 2026, while Anyma Omega is delayed until 2027. Today, the new Aodyo Instruments team has shared the first update of the ongoing development of the Loom controller. Aodyo Instruments Loom Development Update (May 2026) Aodyo shared that the Loom project review is complete: The initial hardware design of the Loom achieved in 2024 was done under the constraint of using components already in use on other Aodyo products in order to capitalize on previous work. The very short delivery horizon also imposed certain technical choices. Decision was made to to polish and refine the technical design to achieve a hardware architecture more suited to the Inodesign production plant while relying on the Inodesign R&D team to achieve a hardware architecture that can further improve performance and sustainability. They have also made decisions on the initial firmware content: To keep the step-by-step approach, we will initially limit ourselves to 5 playing modes for the initial release: 4 instrumental playing modes namely Keyboard, Ribbon, Strum, Pad and 1 MIDI control mode still to be determined (Fader or ControlPad) We plan to interview the contributors via Discord to find out each one's appreciation of the different playing modes descibed during the campaign and their preferences regarding their subsequent focus order. (we will provide a rough preview the Loom preset edition workflow on the dedicated discord channel) I'm pleased to see that development of the Aodyo projects has resumed. The previous products are available for purchase again, such as Anyma Phi and the plugin version. Article from March 21, 2024 In November 2022, the French company Aodyo Instruments launched the Kickstarter campaign for the Anyma Omega, the big version of its Anyma Phi physical modeling Synthesizer. The release has been delayed several times in the last few months due to unplanned component changes, including a new screen, which led to a redesigned mainboard. During this difficult time, the developers didn't keep their fingers crossed but continued working on the synth and a new project called Loom. The latter is a new MPE controller and an element that will be part of the Anyma Omega. Today, they started a Kickstarter, which they also want to offer as a standalone version. Aodyo Instruments Loom Loom is a multidimensional MPE MIDI controller built for immediate playability and expressiveness. Its elongated form factor is reminiscent of the Haken ContinuuMini but uses a different surface. On the Anyma Omega Desktop, the Loom will be installed on the bottom of the case, while the keyboard has it above the polyphonic aftertouch keys. The standalone version of the Loom uses the same technology and will be available in two versions: 2 octaves and 3 octaves. They use a multidimensional multi-touch surface with independent control of pitch (x), timbre (y), and dynamics (z) for each finger. According to the developers, it also provides unique sensors that complement the main surface, including thumb-activated tactile sliders and bars on the front and back edge and a pressure-sensitive action zone on the left. Playing Modes A key feature of the Loom is its different play modes, which enable you to explore it in different fascinating ways. Keyboard lets you play it like a traditional keyboard. Things get more special in the ribbon mode, where you can glide over the surface. You can use it to glide from notes to other notes, giving you a Theremin-like sound experience. Alternatively, you can map it to MIDI CC data and modulate parameters. A feature we know and love from the Hydrasynth ribbon controller. Do you prefer to play your synths like a guitar? No problem! Activate the strum mode and experience guitar strumming with your favorite sounds. Another interesting mode is the drum mode, which turns Loom into a drum trigger controller. And there are more. Ayodo Instruments promises more playing modes via future software updates. Thanks to its USB-C port and MIDI TRS output socket, you can play and control your hardware and software with it. First Impression As an early adopter and supporter of the Anyma Omega keyboard, I would, of course, be more happy to hear the sentence: your unit is ready and shipped. However, there were delays and events that no developer would want to experience. I understand the situation where they are currently in. Nevertheless, I find the Loom an exciting MIDI MPE controller. It looks very handy and beautiful, and I'm excited to experience it on my Omega synth. It's a shame that it doesn't have analog outs like CV or gate. You can support the new Aodyo Instruments Loom project via the Kickstarter campaign until April 11, 2024. The super early bird price for the first 100 units is 239€ for the Loom 2-octave and 339€ for the 3-octave version. The early adopter price is 259€ and 369€, respectively.
