Alexis Bledel thanks 'Gilmore Girls' fans for supporting the series as she reflects on its lasting popularity Alexis Bledel has expressed her appreciation for the original Gilmore Girls fans who continued watching the series as its characters and storylines evolved. Bledel, who played Rory Gilmore on the popular television series, discussed the show's lasting appeal in an interview with The New York Times. The interview was conducted as part of the publication's list of the best TV shows of the 21st century. 'I started working on Gilmore Girls when I was 18, so I'm very grateful for it,' Bledel said. She added that she appreciates fans 'sticking with us as we evolved and grew within our roles.' Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, Gilmore Girls premiered in 2000 and ran for seven seasons until 2007. The series followed Rory and her mother, Lorelai Gilmore, played by Lauren Graham, as they navigated family relationships, romance and life in the fictional town of Stars Hollow. Bledel also reflected on the elements that have helped Gilmore Girls remain popular years after its original run. She pointed to the show's fast-paced dialogue, which she compared to classic films from the 1930s and 1940s, as well as its themes of teenage angst, single motherhood and multigenerational family drama. The series gained a new generation of viewers after becoming available on Netflix in 2014. In 2016, Bledel and much of the original cast reunited for the Netflix revival Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Gilmore Girls was recently ranked No. 99 on The New York Times' list of the best TV shows of the 21st century. Bledel's other television work includes The Handmaid's Tale, for which she won an Emmy.
