The following message was sent to lululemon employees from CEO Heidi O'Neill.
Hi everyone,
I started today the way this company started: with a community yoga class in Vancouver that included an incredible group of local Educators. It was an energizing way to begin my first day as CEO, and I am incredibly honoured to be here.
I have admired this company for a long time, both as a guest and from across the industry. lululemon is a rare, extraordinary brand. There are very few companies in the world that have built the kind of connection we have with our guests and our communities, or that have created a culture with such a distinct sense of purpose and possibility. This is what drew me here and what gives me so much conviction about what we can build in our next chapter, together.
I want to thank Meghan and André for their leadership, energy, and thoughtful stewardship of the company over the past several months. They have done so much to lead and support the organization, and I look forward to partnering with them and our leaders across the business as I get closer to the company and the lululemon community.
Spending the morning with an inspiring group of Educators reinforced the energy and sense of community that make lululemon so special. I can't wait to continue meeting and working alongside all of you - whether that is across our SSCs, distribution centres, guest education centres, or stores around the world.
I'm also looking forward to our fireside chat later this week, where I'll share more about myself and answer some of the questions that are on your minds. It will be the first of many opportunities for us to connect as I spend the coming weeks immersing myself in the business and getting to know our teams across the globe.
As I look ahead, I truly believe that we have an incredible opportunity in front of us: to re-establish who we are at our core and, from that foundation, take lululemon into its next chapter. That starts with product. Product that is innovative and distinctive, and that gives our guests a reason to choose us, love us, and root for us - again. It also means strengthening how we operate and how we connect with our guests and communities.
I have ideas about where we can go and what it will take to get there. And I equally want to listen and learn from you.
Over the coming weeks, I will spend time with our teams, partners, guests, and communities as part of my extensive onboarding program. I will ask a lot of questions - including tough ones. I want to better understand our product, our brand, and our culture. I want to know what is working, what is getting in our way, what we need to protect, and where we need to change. I want to hear from the teams who know this company best.
But listening does not mean standing still. Re-accelerating growth will require focus, urgency, and action. We have work to do. We know the last year has been hard, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. But what matters now is how we respond and what we do next. We need to challenge ourselves, evolve how we work, and hold ourselves to a higher standard. Some choices will be difficult, and I will always do what I believe is right for the organization and our community.
The challenges we face did not emerge overnight, and they will not be fixed overnight - but I am confident they can be fixed. I have enormous respect for what has been built here and believe deeply in the strength of our brand and our teams.
Today, we recommit to what this company was built to do, and we raise the bar on everything we touch. Starting now.
Here's to all that's ahead,
Heidi
