AJ Lee Reveals What It Would Take for Her WWE Return

AJ Lee isn't done wrestling in WWE. Speaking on Mind Over Mountain with Cheryl Strayed, the former Women's Intercontinental Champion said she is staying ready to compete but would need the right story to bring her back. Asked about her future in pro wrestling, AJ said, 'We'll see. There was a piece of me where I was just like, 'I just need a little time.' When I did, I was like, 'I'm still kind of killing it.' I'm confident in what I can bring, but I feel like I'm also story-driven. If there is a story there, that's going to be the thing that excites me. If it's something new that I haven't done and feels like breaking ground, that is what is interesting to me. We'll see. I'm going to keep writing, working out, and staying ready.' AJ's current WWE run began on the September 5, 2025 episode of SmackDown. She returned after more than ten years away to get involved in CM Punk's rivalry with Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins. On February 28 at Elimination Chamber in Chicago, AJ defeated Becky Lynch by submission to win the Women's Intercontinental Championship. It was her first title in WWE since 2014. AJ successfully defended the title on March 16 against Bayley on RAW, again using the Black Widow to win by submission. The reign ended on April 18 at WrestleMania 42 night one, when Becky Lynch won back the Women's Intercontinental Championship. AJ's reign lasted just 48 days. Fightful Select reported on August 25 that sources believed AJ Lee wasn't finished with WWE. AJ herself now says she does not plan to come back just for another run.
