TMCPL announces September through December events

TROY —Troy-Miami County Public Library (TMCPL) announced the following upcoming events for the rest of the year. Fall literacy program This fall, Troy-Miami County Public Library is inviting babies, toddlers, preschoolers and their favorite adults to build early literacy skills through stories, songs, play, crafts and hands-on activities. The library's fall Literacy and Learning programs for littles are designed to help children develop important skills while making reading and learning fun. All programs are free, and no registration is required. Baby Stories Gives the library's youngest readers a playful introduction to early literacy. Through singing, reading, talking and playing, babies and their caregivers can build language skills while enjoying valuable bonding time. The program is for ages 0-2 and meets Tuesdays from 9:30-10 a.m. on Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29; Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27; and Nov. 10 and 17. Library Stories Features a mix of stories, songs and early literacy activities for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. The program meets Tuesdays from 10:30-11 a.m. on Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29; Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27; and Nov. 10 and 17, as well as Thursdays from 6:30-7 p.m. on Sept. 10, 17 and 24; Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29; and Nov. 12 and 19. Book & Craft Build early literacy skills through stories and a hands-on craft. Encourage a love of reading while supporting creativity and fine motor development. (Featured crafts will include painting, paper, and other fun tactile elements.) For toddlers and preschoolers (ages 2-5). Join us on Wednesdays from 10-10:30 a.m. on Sept. 9 and 23; Oct. 7 and 21; and Nov. 18. Preschool Play & Learn Helps children ages 3-5 develop early literacy and kindergarten-readiness skills through stories, songs and hands-on learning activities. The program meets Wednesdays from 10-10:45 a.m. on Sept. 16 and 30; Oct. 14 and 28; and Nov. 11. Wizard of Oz in the Park at Troy-Miami County Public Library Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Troy-Miami County Public Library for a magical evening under the stars when the library hosts Movie in the Park: The Wizard of Oz on Friday, Sept. 11. Families are invited to gather in the library park for a free outdoor showing of the beloved 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz. Festivities begin at 7 p.m., with the movie scheduled to begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. Before the movie, families can enjoy a variety of Wizard of Oz-themed activities, including: • Chalk the Yellow Brick Road • Photos in Emerald City • Stories with Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch • Wizard of Oz trivia Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of family fun at the library. The event is sponsored by Ohio Goes to the Movies and is part of the library's America 250 programming celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. Fall Fun for Teens and Tweens at the Library Troy-Miami County Public Library is kicking off the fall with a lineup of programs designed especially for tweens and teens. From epic adventures and anime to art, DIY projects and unusual snacks, September offers plenty of opportunities for young people to connect, create and try something new at the library. Teen Dungeons & Dragons Invites tweens and teens in grades 6-12 to explore storytelling, strategy and teamwork through the popular tabletop role-playing game. No prior experience is necessary, and participants can bring their imagination and join the adventure. Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. — Create a character and learn the Dungeon Master's rules Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. — Session #1 Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. — Session #2 Food-loving teens can put their taste buds to the test during Taste Test Thursday. Participants will meet in the teen section from 3-5 p.m. to try new foods, including some that are strange and some that are familiar. Thursday, Sept. 17 — Nachos Thursday, Oct. 22 — Pumpkin Spice Thursday, Nov. 19 — Donuts Tweens in grades 4-8 can connect with fellow anime and manga fans during the Tween Anime Club. Each meeting features discussions about favorite series, crafts, trivia and more. The club meets from 11 a.m.-noon. Saturday, Sept. 19, Saturday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 21 Teen Art Club Invites tweens and teens in grades 6-12 to explore their creativity using the library's art supplies. Participants can create art of their choice or follow a provided craft if they need inspiration. The club meets from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22 and Tuesday, Oct. 27 Looking for something to squish, squeeze or spin? Teen DIY Fidgets gives tweens and teens in grades 6-12 the chance to make a variety of fidgets to keep their hands busy throughout the day. Choose your favorites and leave with something new to play with. Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. All programs are free, and no registration is required.
